Computational Research Laboratories (CRL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services which is part of the Tata Group. CRL is headquartered in Pune, India and has a branch office in US. In November 2007, a supercomputer named EKA was built at CRL with technical support from Hewlett-Packard and $30 million USD of funding from Tata Sons. At the time it was the fastest supercomputer in Asia and 4th fastest in the world. As per the results of the International Supercomputing Conference held in November 2010, EKA was the 47th fastest supercomputer in the world. In 2006, Dr. Narendra Karmarkar was invited to work in CRL but in July 2007 he left CRL because of internal differences arising between him and the Tata group.
